Jaz Stutley We loved the giraffes ... the lions ... and the Grand Flight Aviary, and more! This lion began roaring as we were watching; a sound difficult to describe - deep, wild and thrilling. The giraffes have solar-powered feeders that keepers fill at the bottom, then move up to the top of a pole to be at giraffe level. The bushes in the Grand Flight Aviary are dusted with white guano from the many years of birds flying over, and in the feeding huts we could see small silver fish as well as grains, fruit, and so on. We just missed the tiger (altho' we could hear it complaining) and the elephants, but loved the atmospheric bamboo walk to their enclosures. Will visit again before too long. Melbourne Zoo is in Parkville, easily reached by tram, train, and car.
